The Community Reads Series is an initiative aimed at connecting folks in the community, sharing stories between people of different generations, and creating opportunities for deeper connection and understanding.
It is a children’s reading time, not simply where stories are read from pages, but where the reader gets to share their own story as well- what roles they may serve, what community means to them, and what they’ve learned about what supports a vibrant, loving community of people.
ABOUT THIS WEEK’S BOOK: Mi Familia: Celebrating the Day of the Dead
Seven-year-old Valentina and her loving family introduce little readers to Valentina's favorite celebration of the year: the Day of the Dead. Together with her family she visits the cemetery, decorates her home, bakes pan de muerto, listens to her grandfather's singing, and goes to festivals with her sister Sofia. But the most important part of the celebration for Valentina is when her family shares stories about her great-grandparents over dinner. She loves those stories because family is everything.
This reading will be done in both Spanish and English!
